In 1995, I graduated from the Swedish Institute of Massage Therapy and Allied Health Science. I had a thriving massage practice in New York City specializing in prenatal massage. In the spring of 1997 I was invited to be present at the birth of a dear friend’s baby as her massage therapist. My friend’s birth was attended by her husband, her doctor, a couple of nurses and by a trained and certified doula as well. As I witnessed the gentle ways her doula supported, not only the birthing mother and her partner, but the medical staff as well, I realized that I had found my life’s work.
I became a certified doula in 1998 by both DONA (Doulas of North America) and ALACE (Association of Labor Assistants and Childbirth Educators) and have had the privilege and shared joy of supporting hundreds of birthing people and their families in numerous hospitals, birth centers and homes in New York City, Stockholm, Sweden and throughout Switzerland.
Originally from Seattle, I am a love import to Switzerland. It is my good fortune to live in this beautiful part of the world with my Swiss husband and our two wonderful young adult children.
Our kiddos came into our lives after my husband and I spent many years on an infertility journey. Although those were the hardest years of our lives, we knew and trusted that we were waiting for just the right souls to come our way. They were born in Stockholm in 2003 and 2005. Our own personal birth experiences were profoundly and positively transformational, due in large part to the choices we made along the way and to the love and support we received from our extraordinary midwife and doula team.
Each new life I have witnessed make the journey earth-side has humbled me, taught me and helped me to find the confidence and the wisdom that I will use to help you hold your birth space sacred.
My goal is for you to be able to always reflect on your baby’s birth story with satisfaction, knowing that you and those, whom you chose to support you, worked in harmony to create the most amazing and pleasurable birth experience possible.
